The cosmic intelligence is constantly busy expressing itself in, and as, the material world. This cosmic process is nicely symbolized by the popular Sanskrit word “OM” : the “O” (the nothingness, the unmanifest, the transcendence, the absolute, the pure being) is be-coming “M” (matter, mother Nature, manifestation, maya, the ever evolving relative creation). From the human perspective, this cosmic process is felt as the inner urge to develop our personality to its full potential.
The full development of heart and mind is traditionally called “Enlightenment”, “Moksha”, “Salvation”, “Nirvana”, Sattori” , “Kaivalya”, “Cosmic consciousness”, “God-consciousness”, or “Unity consciousness”, and it even got some personal names like “Christ consciousness”, “Krishna consciousness” and “realising your Buddha Nature”, etc.
However, these terms have proven to be very puzzling and perplexing to most of the people, and have been mystified all over the world. Different religions, spiritual sects and individual gurus have tried to monopolize this natural and universal process. (Noteworthy examples are Christianity and Islam.)
In order not be misled by religious and sectarian organisations, it is important to know that enlightenment is nothing other than mental maturity: the natural and full development of our human emotional and intellectual capacity.
Seeing it in this way, the “way to enlightenment”, and the “state of enlightenment” are no longer a mystery. On the contrary: it is becoming a normal, relaxed, mature, open, loving, happy and wise human being; becoming the true human being we are meant to be!
